The Road to Washington

One of the secret joys of this life is taking our time driving to new locations. First we went from North Georgia to San Antonio, TX going through parts of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. The second drive was from Texas to Sturgis, SD and we drove through parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and finally South Dakota. We schedule each move to only be on the road for five or six hours. We never want our pets to be in crates for longer than six hours if possible. Although it does make for a longer travel time to get to each destination, it also allows for more stops along the way to really see this beautiful country.

As we wrapped up our time in South Dakota it was time to hit the road again. This time our destination was Gig Harbor, WA. The drive would take us through portions of South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and across most of the state of Washington. To say this was a beautiful drive would be an understatement. Driving through the Black Hills, Northern Rocky Mountains, Cascade Mountain Range and eventually ending up in the Puget Sound area made this one the best road trips so far.

I have to say I was blown away by the sheer size and beauty of the Northern Rocky Mountains. We have seen a lot of mountains on our travels, but there was something special about these mountains. Every curve in the road led you to another jaw dropping view. I never wanted this part of the drive to end.

Personally, this was sort of a wonderful memory for me. The last time we drove on I-90 was a year ago as we made our way from Idaho into Montana. On that occasion I reached my 50th state as we passed into Montana. I remembered how beautiful it was with snow on the mountains. I knew going back the other way into Idaho would be equally beautiful. I was excited when we saw the sign and crossed into the next state.

Soon we passed Lake Coeur d'Alene, and made our way across the panhandle. Next up was our future "home" in the state of Washington.

After staying the night in Spokane, WA we made our way across the state at a leisurely pace. Crossing the Columbia River was a delightful experience minus some of the smoke from various forest fires. However, anytime I can convince the hubby to stop and explore is a good time in my book.

Next up was the Cascade Mountains. Otherwise known as the home for Bigfoot. We kept our eyes open for any sign of him, but instead all we saw was more beautiful mountains.

Finally, after skipping around the southern end of Seattle we crossed the "new" Galloping Gurtie bridge. This took us over the Tacoma Narrows of the Puget Sound, and we were on the Kitsap Pennisula. This was going to be our home for the next nine months!

Soon after we crossed the bridge we arrived in Lakebay! It was nice to pull into our driveway and to finally make it to our new temporary home. There will be so much more to come about our new home and state! Stayed tuned.
