Happy New Year!

What a joy to wake up in our lovely little home and not worry about painting or remodeling. We spent the past year just dreaming, planning and hoping for this very moment- this sweet feeling of release. There are no longer any expectations for the day and there is no stress about what must be done. We can finally relax and simply enjoy whatever may come our way. I will admit that I meant to embrace this lifestyle with wholehearted abandon, but I have been cautious. I am lulled by the thought that we have time to see everything that we want to see, but we all know that time is fleeting, so I am grateful for David who is visibly joyful and very much enjoying each moment. I love watching him plan our next adventure.

One of the first places that we wanted to see while in San Antonio was the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. The Missions are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites to preserve the frontier missions in San Antonio. They include Missions San José, San Juan, Espada, and Concepción. For this excursion we visited Missions San José and Concepción and decided to leave Espada and San Juan for another day.

Mission San José is the largest of the missions. Today, it is not only a historic monument, but also part parish, part museum, and part visitor center. In fact, the parish even has an active Mariachi Mass every Sunday!

Mission Concepción, on the other hand, is considered the oldest unrestored stone church in America. This church also still holds services each Sunday, so we will definitely plan to attend services. Afterall, it isn’t every day that you have the opportunity to worship in a 17th century stone church!

After exploring the missions we ended up at Pete’s Tako House. There might be some amazing restaurants along the River Walk, but this one is definitely a top contender! Pete’s is a family owned restaurant and they have been in business for the past 40+ years! I am not surprised- the amazing food coupled with the exceptional service makes this place hard to beat! (Side note- David strongly recommend‘s the puffy tacos!)

We had an absolutely amazing day delving into a little bit of the history around town. I am excited to see what treasures we will discover on our upcoming adventures. Until then… stay tuned!
