Disclaimer: This post is about the importance of the health and well-being of men- so David will be writing today’s post:
As a guy I can honestly say I rarely take the time to spoil myself. We are taught by society to let the women in our lives be spoiled, but that we should not focus on ourselves. It is no wonder wonder that men break down, have health issues, or feel like we carry the wait of the world on our shoulders.
Note: This is not to discount the struggles that women face- I can only speak from my own experience- I just know many men, myself included, do not focus on our own well-being.
It has taken me a while to break out of the habit of deflecting my own self care needs, but it was not easy. Jenny kept reinforcing the belief that it was just as important that I take care of myself as it was for her to do the same. She would schedule me massages, put essential oils on me at night, and helped me recognize that taking care of my skin and hair were important to my health and well-being. She taught me that the skin is the largest organ we have and it is critical we take care of it. At first I was uncomfortable allowing myself to be pampered, but I quickly got the hang of it.
Upon arriving in San Antonio Jenny immediately started looking for massages and hair cuts specifically tailored for men. She found The Gents Place and let me know that she would like for me to scheduled a hair cut at this business. Essentially, while this was a business that cut mens hair, they do so much more than that.

You can book a plethora of services at The Gents Place. For my first session I went with a simple three course plan. Of course, there is also a seven course plan along with many other add on services to make for a fantastic experience. I was not sure what to expect when I walked in, but to say that I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. Upon entering the front desk/lobby area I noticed a stocked bar. Patrons are checked in an offered a drink.

With your drink in hand you can adjourn to the lounge by the fire. There you can read, check your phone or even play a game or two.

If you really want to unwind though you can go in an inner room with the lights dimmed. You can get a massage, kick your feet up in a recliner or even get a little work done in the peace and quiet. In my opinion this is how a business should cater to a man. I was very impressed!

Once you are called back for your services the stylist then talks with you directly to make sure you get just the right hair cut. After they shampoo and conditioner your hair they wrap a warm towel around your face. If you have never had that done before- please request it the next time you get a haircut. This process really helps the skin and allowed them to give me a classic shave with a straight razor! Did I mention I was impressed yet?

Ad an added bonus your are allowed to check in at The Gents Place any time prior to your scheduled appointment. This allows you to spend as much time, or as little, as you want in this little oasis. I would recommend spending a few hours there. You deserve to be pampered, catered to and to have the option to spend a little time focusing on yourself. This is the type of service that feels like a throwback to a bygone era. I quickly embraced being treated well and Feeling respected by everyone at that business. Let me repeat this to all the guys reading this post…… It is ok to spoil yourself! It is ok to feel good about yourself and to feel respected. It seems like in today’s society it is almost abhorrent to be a man. Masculinity is frowned upon and the art of being a gentleman seems to be lost. It is refreshing to still find businesses who focus on men. My first impression made a lasting one on me. Anytime I am in an area with The Gents Place I will book a session with them. The owners of this business have done an amazing job, and they have earned my business from this day forward.
