The best parts about living a nomadic lifestyle is that we have more time to do and see the things that we want to see. This is true even if those things aren’t on the top of the list for other people AND even if those things might be a bit cheesy or silly. It is important to note that historically David wasn’t much on embracing anything cheesy or silly. He is a planner and an organizer. He is stable and calm amidst turmoil. Oh, he has a wild sense of humor and always up for fun adventures, but he’s more likely to be stoic than to be silly. I guess it would be fair to say that letting loose isn’t one of David’s most noticeable characteristics. Lately though? He is wholeheartedly embracing the enthusiastic, child-like, curious, fun-loving, goofy, loud, adventure-seeking side of himself.
As such, he has taken it upon himself to find “touristy” things to do in between the other more serious or exciting activities that we plan. I never quite know what to expect on our day to day adventures, so when David piped up with “Hey… you wanna go see Dinosaur Park?“ as we were tooling around Rapid City this afternoon, I inwardly groaned, but enthusiastically agreed. I know better than to balk at a crazy side trip and today turned out to be exactly the kind of goofy adventure I have come to love and cherish.
WARNING: this park is nothing like Dinosaur National Monument in Utah (which is what I was kind of expecting).
So without further ado:

What?? I told you it wasn’t anything like Utah‘s National Monument… This park is more about giving kids (or middle aged adults) something to look at and to burn off a little energy. However, it also embraces this regions former inhabitants from long ago. There is a rich history when it comes to dinosaurs in and around Rapid City.

He does love his dinosaurs (and spaceships and aliens). In all honesty though? I love seeing my husband smile and laugh more than anything else. I cherish and soak up every one of these moments. Anyway, despite being cheesy, we WERE treated to some amazing views.

As I watched David today I am grateful and my heart is full. It was cold, windy and a bit of a hike all to see some plastic dinosaurs on top of a hillside. However, I love seeing this side of my husband and will follow him anywhere he wants to go. It is fun to embrace the silly as we travel around this beautiful country.
