Even though we were on Oahu for three days our "real" Hawaiian vacation started when we arrived on Maui. Being on Oahu was wonderful and about as perfect as I could have hoped. However, I had so much I wanted to share with David that I did not have much time to just relax. I was excited to visit Maui for the first time with my sweetheart by my side.
Within minutes of getting off the plane we were perched on a cliff taking pictures of the bluest water we had ever seen. It was mesmerizing.

A short drive later we were on the Kāʻanapali coast. David reserved us a stay at the Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel and from the moment we arrived we were treated likes kings and queens by the KBH staff. Then my husband surprised me with our room! It was beautiful and it was everything I hoped for and then some. Our room was an ocean front ground floor room. We literally could walk onto the beach from our room and the sounds of the waves crashing onto the shore were so soothing. It was pretty close to heaven in my humble opinion.

As much as I wanted to stay in our room my husband surprised me with dinner reservations at Huihui. We were celebrating so much on this trip: my 50th birthday, David's 50th state and even a little early 20th anniversary occasion. We had dinner right on the beach, with a stunning view of the ocean as the sun set over the water. As if that was not enough we got to watch a beautiful hula performance.

This was everything I ever imagined for a Hawaiian vacation. HOWEVER, what I will remember the most about that night was the sunset. I have been alive for 50 years and have traveled to many places, but have never seen a sunset like the one I saw on our first night in Maui. It was as if God himself came before us and painted the sky in celebration. Words cannot describe it and pictures don't do it justice, but I did snap a few to try and capture the moment.

We wrapped up this perfect day with a moonlit stroll along the beach as we slowly made our way back to our room. I still can't recall this day without feeling the breeze on my skin and the sand under my toes. Even writing about it makes me sentimental, it was a beautiful day in paradise with my love.
